TUTE WEEK 2:

The fist part of this task is posted down bellow on my page, with the video of Mark Zuckerberg.

Now for the second:

My Own Experiences- My first mobile phone was given to me for my twelfth birthday in 2006. A prepaid silver Nokia flip phone equipped with nothing less than gangster polyphonic ringtones. It was very small, with simple numbered push buttons and practically unbreakable. The only purpose my nifty device served as, was a calling, texting and game playing tool. Let us compare this to phones today..
I now own a Samsung S2 smart phone. I am on a $50 plan which enables me to sms, call, video call and picture message who ever, whenever I please. No longer 'emergency calls only' devices, these high tech machines primarily enhance our social lives and manage our career lives. These smart phones allow us to roam the internet in virtually any location, provide us with up to date news and weather, navigate and direct us accurately, take pictures and videos with a high megapixel and zoom camera, provide us with a selection of games, books, entertainment and music, and they even account for being a personal diary and schedule. The reason why so many are eager to jump on board the smart phone train is because of one simple reason...EASY.  Hundreds of everyday devices and tools compact into the one, fast accessible device which can fit in my pocket.  The one downfall to this technology, is that it is extremely vulnerable to damage. It is also proof of the slow elimination of the manual, classic world. The days when cassette players, big notebooks and maps were used are long gone. Which, is not a very comforting thought, but more saddening like a loss.

Week 2: LECTURE and READINGS

Isn't it scary how much trust we put into the internet and cyberspace. Entering our personal details onto online without a second thought. It can be done as simply as when we set up an email or Facebook account, or purchase something online. How do we tell if companies are legitimate? How do we tell it is not a scam? Or that our personal information won't be leaked or shared amongst millions? Unless you are a computer whizz, this can prove very hard to determine. Most of us would just trust our instincts. Often 'judging a book on its cover' if you will. If the site is popular, well known, and has a 'shnazzy' layout, then it passes. If its dodgy, asks for way to many details and know one has heard of it...then NO.  However, scamming companies are getting smarter and more savvy by the day, so just LOOK OUT and get a second opinion. Me personally, should be gaining the opinions of at least 5 before purchasing online goods.

TUTE 1:

A-Hoy Hoy!

My name is Maree Miller, as you have probably assumed by this time. Im 18 years of age and this is my first year attending Griffith Uni! Studying a Bachelor of Arts/ Business, which will go for 4 years. I chose this degree as it involves so much that I love, can take me to either three of my very different career dreams and that excited me to the core! Yes, thats right...THREE. I have three career goals. I originally began with a number in the two digits, so I have done well to narrow them down.

A world know line from the Bratz Doll frenzy;"I have a Passion for Fashion!" Ewww...I hate Bratz. But seriously...I have the biggest love of fashion win any form its ridiculous. My shopping is much like some people going to the casino. You don't go unless your ready to loose. Working for a fashion/ gossip magazine is in my 3 career goals. Even for a news paper in the events or nutrition section would be fabulous to write for.

Another love of mine is performing! I have studies drama and stage theatre both in and out of school and it is beautiful. Being on stage and acting, feeling, being another person entirely gives an indescribable sensation. Also cooking. I cook for my family every night of the week. It started as a duty to help my mum when she couldn't. But for the last 2 years, I have found more comfort in cooking than you know. The joy and calm it brings me, and the love of sharing it with everyone is amazing. I would love to teach kids to cook in an out door kitchen some days, and cater for huge events, weddings and functions every other day. One of my three careers.

Fitness is also a beautiful hobby of mine. To run, move, workout, exercise will never bore me.

So the subject New Communication Technologies...This will no doubt be an immense challenge for me. I am the absolute WORST when it comes to technology. Say the word 'Blackberry' and i would reply, "Oh delicious! Where??" Pathetic I know..Oh I know.

Well signing off. This is all new to me. I think I'm a wee bit excited though!
Woooooooooooooooooo........

A FRESH START

Ok so here is the deal... I was all organised and ready to go this semester, with a wicked folder full of all my subjects greatly detailed with plastic sleeves labelled lecture notes, tutorial tasks, assignments etc. I knew that this class would be the most difficult of them all for me due to my pathetic technology skills. Anyhow, within 2 weeks I discover that my log gin details were not working, and after much frustration, punching my poor (now deformed) pillow and a wee bit of emotional eating, I am now going to attempt to pull myself together.

(Lifting right hand)..."I, Maree Miller, solemnly swear, to pull my finger out and: 1. Get up to date with blogs starting from week one, 2. Approach a smart cookie in my class and ask how to make my page look ravishing, funky and delicious, 3. Keep up to date with homework. I swear to try super hard to pass this class, to enhance my technological skills (if existent), and think positively about blogging! Who knows, this could lead to a possibly delightful career in a fashion magazine! (Oooo-La-La!)

Wish me luck ducklings <3
